Walgett Special One Co-operative, trading as Special One Grain, have recently purchased the Domatex Cotton Processing Plant at 1 Yarrie Lake Road, Narrabri with a view to utilising the shed and land for bulk handling of grain and pulses.

CEO, Ed Colless described the purchase as "part of a strategic, long term investment encompassing growth and logistics.  Part of our mission statement is to improve the financial returns of our growers’ grain enterprises by focusing on and improving value chain services and addressing problems that erode profitability. This purchase satisfies this mission"

Special One Grain is a specialist pool management and grain marketing organisation that creates value for grain growers. With a 23 year history of grain marketing, head office in Walgett and grain marketers currently based in Moree, Burren Junction and Dubbo, Special One Grain is well positioned to capitalise on this new venture.  Following on from two relatively good cropping production years and with 2010 shaping up to be another above average year, this is a timely purchase.

Ed Colless related that "currently negotiations are underway to engage a professional organisation to develop a site plan.  Development costs need to be assessed in line with high volume grain handling efficiencies with a focus on advanced modern technology." Expressions of interest are invited for the purchase of all or part of the mote ginning equipment.

Walgett Special One Co-operative was formed in 1987 by a group of pro-active growers to deal specifically with the marketing of high, protein screenings wheat. From these relatively humble beginnings, the wholly owned subsidiary Special One Grain has recently emerged as one of the largest wheat pool providers on the east coast of Australia as well being a major player in the domestic grain market.

Special One Grain marketers are on farm and on the phone every day talking to growers. They speak with too many growers who held grain over from last year without a risk management strategy. Too many growers lost tens of thousands of dollars. Some lost hundreds of thousands of dollars by trying to pick cash price spikes.

Currently there are large quantities of grain stored around the world. Australia carried millions of tonnes of unsold grain across to this year’s harvest and we look like carrying millions of tonnes more across to next year’s 2010/2011 harvest.

The Australian dollar is currently strong against global currencies and it’s trending stronger.

Large quantities of unsold grain and the strong Australian dollar are currently putting downward pressure on Australian grain prices. Therefore grain growers and grain marketers should be working together to manage grain stocks plus maximize returns to growers.

Special One Grain is a specialist pool manager. Special One grain Pools have proven over the years to effectively and efficiently manage grain stocks. Special One Grain Pools have proven over the years to maximize grower returns while satisfying grower cash flow requirements.

The good news is that global grain consumption is consistently increasing year after year. This augers well for a global take up of stored grain stocks over the next 2 years.

Special One Grain offers growers a 12 month pool as well as a 24 month pool. Both pools are designed with the help of growers to maximize returns and satisfy cash flow requirements. In particular the 24 month pool is designed to take advantage of increasing grain prices as global consumption continues to increase and excess global grain stocks are steadily eaten away.

Talk to your local Special One Grain marketer. You don’t have to sell for cash at harvest just to get cash flow. You don’t have to sell at harvest for a discounted cash price. They can show you how the Special One Grain pools do a great job in meeting your cash flow requirements and how they maximize your returns.

Remember Special One Grain is 100% owned and controlled by growers. Your local Special One Grain marketer is on your side and is 100% working for you.

In 1987 growers in north-west NSW were offered $60 per metric tonne for high screenings wheat. They said, “No, that’s not good enough!” Growers worked together, organized bulk storage & pooled together their high screenings grain. A few months later they sold that pooled grain for $90 per metric tonne. Special One Grain was up & running.
